Sometimes they say your first is the most memorable, well the first place that we visited while in Paris was Notre Dame. The structure kept you locked in your tracks admiring the beauty and history.

We walked around the grounds and realized that it was free to go in and take a look around. The moment you walk into this amazing Cathedral you notice everything, the smell of the wood the stained glass. Everything is incredible and very peaceful.

The wonderful sight of looking down the alter, the lights the feeling that you felt while being in such great presence. There are several other places that we visited that had the history flare and the memorable moments, however when you have been somewhere and it actually takes your breath away you know that you enjoyed it.

The best things in life are free.

    • We truly felt like it was one of the most magnificent structures throughout the Parisian landscape! It has such a perfect setting as well beside the River Seine, almost overlooking all of the other key landmarks throughout Paris.

Once you step inside Notre Dame also, it’s not like any other cathedral, it’s almost difficult to describe that feeling as you look in awe at the abundance of beauty throughout the architecture!

  1. I enjoyed your pictures. It reminded me of a time we went with the kids and climbed the stairs to the roof. The view from the top is incredible. The gargoyles were always a favorite for them to see.

    • Thanks for the comments Carmen! We didn’t get the opportunity to climb the stairs but I bet that was awesome! Hopefully we will get that chance when we go back to Paris the next time. One of my favorite aspects of Notre Dame, well any cathedral really, is the intricacies that go into the minor details in the architecture both on the interior and exterior. You can see the amount of time and design that went into this and it’s really amazing especially given how long ago it was constructed.

  2. would you believe that we didn’t go inside Notre dame in Paris. Just saw it from outside. Same for St Paul’s in London. I think we have a problem with religious places but it is gorgeous from the outside 🙂

    • Both the interior and exterior of Notre Dame is amazing! I would highly recommend going inside, even if you are not religious in any way because the infrastructure and architecture within, the intricate details that the designers went to is really cool to see for yourself!

  3. Lovely pictures – looks particularly good in black and white. I’ve been to Paris many times but I don’t think I’ve ever been inside the Notre Dame before. Looks like that’s something I should aim to do on the next visit.

  4. Short and sweet, but very much to the point and capturing through the senses how awesome it is. Your photos are also stunning. You’re so right Heather, you don’t need to be religious to appreciate a place like Notre Dame, or many other wonderful churches, shrines and cathedrals that one finds here in Europe.

  5. you’ve captured the essence of this place of worship and it is always a stunning place to visit – thanks for taking us there, need to visit again soon!

  6. Notre Dam is one of my favourite churches, and one of the prettiest (in my books) spots in Paris! I loved looking at all the gargoyles too- reminded me of the Disney movie 🙂

    • The only thing that we regret about our trip to Notre Dame was not climbing the 400 steps to the top of the tower but that will be a definite must-do experience on our next trip to Paris!
