If you are interested in American history, there is no better place to visit than Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Chris and I were fortunate enough to visit here during the winter months which provided an added bonus of snow covered streets which from an Arkansan perspective was really cool to see given that we rarely get much snow in our part of the States.
So what makes Philadelphia such an attractive location for travelers? Well, whether it’s raining, snowing or the sun is shining there is always something to do in “The City of Brotherly Love”. The beauty of Philadelphia is that everything downtown is very accessible by foot or if you prefer to use the public transportation system, the SEPTA is easy to navigate and convenient.
Whether you are interested in learning about the moment America earned their independence at Independence Hall or recreating Rocky’s infamous training routine on the steps outside the Philadelphia Art Museum, there is surely something here that will interest you. Rather than using words to describe our trip here, we want to share some of our favorite images that really depict our experience more than any words could!
Hopefully this will inspire you to check out one of the most historic cities throughout USA. If you are like us, you won’t regret taking a trip to The City of Brotherly Love and of course, you have to sample one of the most famous American delicacies there – “The Philly Cheesesteak!”

I will be in Philadelphia this weekend for a fest. I could not be more excited. I love this city.
I have to agree with you, Heather: Philadelphia is a great city to travel to! I went to a conference there about 7 years back and just loved walking around the whole downtown to take in all the history. Couldn’t stay too long without buying new pants though—those Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches are to die for 🙂
Great photos! So many people have tried to tell me there’s nothing in the US to see, and that there’s no culture or history here. Your post helps me prove the wrong!! There are so many great historic cities to check out and explore, and we hope to get to Philly sometime soon!
Philadelphia is such a fun and classically American city. It has an historical feel when you walk around and I love the architecture, too. I’ve only been there to visit friends in recent years and have really enjoyed the food scene. I should probably get to more monuments when I’m in Philly, but the food is just too too good. You guys captured the heart of the city very nicely with these shots.
I’ve heard that Philadelphia is beautiful- and it certainly looks that way from your photos! Funny that you enjoyed seeing it in the snow. If you like it that much I’ll try to ship you some this winter… I certainly get lots here in Ottawa! 🙂
The statue of Rocky Balboa is definitely my favorite one! I wonder if they’re gonna make one of Apollo Creed in the future!
Great photos! I really liked walking through Society Hill when I was in Philadelphia for a work trip. I didn’t get to tour the city as much as I would have liked, but I did ride in a horse carriage as part of a historic tour!
This makes me regret not spending more time in Philly when I was home this winter! There really is so much to do and see. Great photos!
One of my favorite places I’ve ever visited was in Philadelphia! Eastern State penitentiary. The perfect mix of creepy and cool history! Great article. I definitely need to go back to Philadelphia soon.
Thanks for commenting Jennifer, yeah it’s been a few years since we went to Philly so I think it’s time for us to book a trip back there! I will definitely be adding the Eastern State Penitentiary to our list of things to do when we return. Thanks so much for your kind comments also, we really appreciate it.
