Planning a trip can be both exciting and stressful, especially when juggling multiple aspects like flights, accommodation, activities, and transportation. We have always found that trying to stay organized with so many different moving parts to be incredibly challenging but of course, with technology, there are many different platforms out there to help you stay organized. Travel apps in particular have transformed the way we organize and execute our travel plans, making the process much more efficient and enjoyable.
Whether we are looking for ways to stay on top of the initial planning phase, or perhaps keep you right on track with your scheduled itinerary, finding the perfect app on your cell phone is a great way to ensure a seamless experience, leading to an enjoyable vacation. Traveling across the global can be a daunting prospect if you are unorganized but after reading this post, we hope you are eager to get out and explore the world and have a handy companion in your pocket to help ease any nerves you may be facing.
Best Research/Travel Inspiration Apps
The first step in any trip is deciding where to go and what to do. While we hope that you will check out our blog for a plethora of inspiring travel ideas, we also understand there are many other options out there. Travel apps like TripAdvisor, Pinterest (to check out some of our favorite travel bloggers inspiring content), or Google Travel help with this phase by offering user reviews, destination highlights, and recommendations.
It goes without saying that you can be given “information overload” when trying to narrow down your destinations, but this is all part of fun when it comes to planning either a domestic or international trip. Whether you are looking to browse destinations based on your interests, or perhaps just looking for something to fuel your wanderlust, the myriad of apps available on mobile phone and tablets are endless.
When it comes to initial planning, we prefer to use our iPad simply because of the larger screen to pick out inspiring destinations. By using filters to explore destinations based on weather, budget, or season, we are able to narrow down to a shortlist before making our final decision.
Trip Booking Apps
Once you have determined your chosen destination(s), it’s time to book flights, accommodations, and transportation. Dependent on how spontaneous you want to be will likely determine whether you opt to book all of these initially, but we frequently like to leave booking our hotels until later, especially if we are taking an international adventure where we may try to visit multiple locations. As long as we have our return flight booked, we usually like to leave room for spontaneity (this is not for everyone, especially if you are on a tight budget).
We generally prefer to book our flights through direct airline apps to maximize the loyalty programs, but for those that travel less and more interested in convenience, utilizing an app such as Kayak, Expedia, or SkyScanner likely will be an attractive option. We have used all previously with positive experiences, and again it’s really about your personal preference as to which route you choose to take to book your trip.
Apps such as those referenced above are beneficial to have on your phone because you can setup price alerts to notify you when selected routes drop in price. In addition, you can frequently setup flexible date searches to identify the cheapest days to fly. A quick tip for occasional flyers, Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s are stereotypically the cheapest days of the week, with Friday’s and Sunday’s the most expensive.
Allyz TravelSmart App
One of our favorite apps that is available on both iOS and Android, is the Allyz TravelSmart application. Not only does this app provide everything you need to stay organized by keeping all of your itineraries in one spot, it also can give you the peace of mind while you are on your trip by providing an all access information hub.
Whether you are looking to find a local healthcare facility, or perhaps just seeking destination-specific safety and security alerts, the Allyz TravelSmart is the “all in one” app that can make your travel planning and experiences on the road much simpler. If you are using Allianz Travel Insurance to protect your trip, you can keep track of your travel protection plans though the app.
With 24/7 access to a customer support agent through the app, this is definitely a no brainer to add to your list of must have apps before you head on your next trip! When you think about the perfect electronic companion, Allyz TravelSmart is certainly one of the best.
Discovering Local Things to Do
Once you have navigated your way through airports and arrived at your destination, it’s time to get out and start exploring. Many of you may plan walking tours, or daily excursions ahead of your visit, while others may prefer to keep your itineraries open to allow for spontaneity. Regardless of your preference, having access to apps such as Viator, GetYourGuide, and our favorite, CityPASS, is a great way to explore destinations. While CityPASS is only available in select US cities, it is a great way to experience a selection of iconic attractions at a discounted rate.
Sometimes, the best part of travel is discovering those truly unique experiences that you cannot find in any guidebook. Apps like Airbnb Experiences, Peek, and ToursByLocals offer one-of-a-kind opportunities led by locals with insider knowledge of their city. From private cooking classes with a local chef to immersive cultural experiences like traditional music or dance lessons, these platforms are great for travelers looking for something off the beaten path.
Summary
With the right set of travel apps, you can easily manage every aspect of your trip, from booking and planning to staying organized and connected on the go. Embrace technology to streamline your travels, allowing you to focus on what matters most—enjoying your adventure.
Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or a month-long international adventure, these apps make travel planning easier, more organized, and far less stressful.
