  1. First off congrats on the 5000 followers! Great achievement! As for the answer to your question…hmm toughie. I first started travelling after my dad got sick…he had a brain injury and as a result has suffered from memory loss. I watched him struggle to remember what he had for breakfast much less what he did the day before, but he did remember the past. I used to be all about doing my masters and maybe PhD and then getting a high flying and successful job, but after seeing that I realized if I were in a similar situation I wouldn’t want my clearest memories to be of work and school. So after my undergrad I packed up and moved to Ireland. In the past three years I have been to 27 countries and numerous cities. I don’t have my masters or PhD and probably never will, and I work as a professional cake decorator for little more than minimum wage. But I’m happy with my life right now as it allows me the freedom to see the world which is the most important thing to me at this time. I don’t regret any of my decisions so far 🙂

  2. Travelling has been part of me for as long as I can remember. I have always wanted to travel, but as a child and teenager I never got the chance. If I were to pinpoint the exact moment when my wanderlust started, I would say in 1988, when I was given a flag book for my birthday. I dreamed of seeing those beautiful exotic sounding countries. I am writing this from Madagascar, so I can say that my dream has finally become true.

  3. Congratulations on passing the 5.000 followers mark. Well done! I love to see new places, basically. I love nature. It makes me comfortable and overwhelmed at the same time and even though we have some nature here, it’s never as quiet or as stunning as in foreign places. If I couldn’t see nature, I probably wouldn’t travel. Cities are not really my thing, I always long for the silence and the piece of mind I can find there…

  4. Good question, Chris! Would it be horrible if I said food is what inspires me to travel?! Every country/area/region has such distinct flavors, and I love makinf my tastebuds happy! Seeing wildlife in their natural habitat also inspires me to travel! 🙂

    • Not horrible at all Jessica! I definitely agree with you that when you travel it’s all about learning different cultural experiences and cuisine is certainly one of them.

    • Congratulations Christine! You are our lucky winner of the Weekend Getaways Giveaway! We will contact you directly to get your mailing address so we can send your prize!

  5. There are so many things that inspire me to travel the world! To see new places, cultures, learn about the history of a place, see beautiful scenery, eat yummy food…the world is just so unique and I want to experience as much of it as I can!

  6. Congratulations on your milestone! 🙂

What inspires me to travel? I love experiencing new things – culture, food, people, places, scenery – I caught the travel bug from my dad; he loves to go off and explore but I think I have taken it a step further and turned it into an obsession 🙂 My other inspiration comes from books – whenever I read about a place I need to visit so it becomes another place on our list. I visualise what a place looks like, what the people will be like and what the food will taste like to the point that I then get on the internet and start looking at flights and accommodation! My long suffering husband no longer questions why we are going somewhere, he now just assumes I have read about it! 🙂

  7. Thanks for the giveaway! I have a pretty horrible disease that doesn’t have much of a positive prognosis, so that inspires me to travel the world. I want to see and do as much as possible before my body just can’t keep up anymore. And I’ve found that I feel the best and have the most healing experiences when I travel 🙂

  8. Nice little prize Chris and a nice idea for a competition. There is only one downside, weekends never seem to last long enough!!! 🙂

I’ve submitted my humble offering via Twitter. Wishing you every success with the competition and to all entrants.

  9. So many things inspire me to travel! Reading is a biggie – blogs, travel books, magazines, even literature. Friends and family…movies…
