La Fresh Travel Lite Wipes – Product Review

Packing for a trip is always a mad rush and last minute process! I always try to justify why I shouldn’t take some of my essential items because of what liquids they contain and the struggles this incurs trying to get through TSA lines at the airport. Well, we think that we have found the perfect solution! La Fresh is a company that is making an impact on people’s lives by providing a product that is effective and convenient.

The La Fresh Travel Lite wipes selection is vast and offers something for everyone’s needs. They offer single and multiple packets of shoe shine, hygiene, make-up remover, insect repellent, lens cleaner among many more. You can check out their extensive selection here.

La Fresh Travel Lite Wipes Full Line

We have already started to see this travel range in airports. On our recent weekend trip to Minneapolis we noticed that La Fresh travel range was for sale inside the airport terminal which clearly indicates where the market is moving with these types of products! The best overall advantage of this product range is that it is officially carry on approved which makes this a must have for any traveler!

Lens & Screen Cleaner

I always try to keep screen cleaner in my bag to take care of my Apple products and of course glasses. I was looking for a different cleaner because the one I was using previously was left streaks and an overall poor performance – obviously not ideal when traveling.

I started using the Lens & Screen Cleaning wipes from La Fresh and immediately found these to be different from other products. I opened the packet and to my surprise no water but a large damp wipe. At first I thought something was wrong, how could this dry wipe clean anything – how wrong was I! I cleaned every screen I own (iPhone, iPad, MacBook Pro with Retina) with one wipe, no sticky hands or residue and the best part of all no streaks.

La Fresh differs from others because their products contain small amounts of water and pursuing their ecological philosophy, products are made from biodegradable materials.

La Fresh Travel Lite Wipes Lineup

The Pros

  • Great design
  • Small and Carry-on approved
  • Variety
  • Biodegradable
  • Convenient
  • No residue
  • Made in the USA

The Cons

  • Some may consider the price to be a drawback but overall for a convenient, travel-size item it is reasonable

Conclusion

When you are packing for a trip and do not want to carry all of your liquids, I would recommend buying La Fresh Travel Lite wipes for your needs. It’s a great product and from our experience is certainly worth the price.

Dream Destinations – Japan

After a series of Western Hemisphere locations in our series of Dream Destinations, it’s time we headed East to Asia and the magical land of Japan. The heart of Japan – Tokyo, is a splended mix of modern day living and old-fashioned cultures along with the stereotypical high-tech gadgets we all associate with the Japanese.

We all probably have very different opinions on the top attractions in the Land of the Rising Sun, but I would not hesitate to suggest that at the top of many of our lists include a combination of sights, shrines, parks, gardens, restaurants, museums, or neighborhoods.

Some of the top recommended attractions of note worth visiting in Japan are as follows.

Mount Fuji

mt fuji

Located in the heart of Honshu island, Mt Fuji is a striking presence in the landscape. To visitors it offers a sense of excitement and beauty but to locals there is still that fear of a looming volcanic eruption. I think that the day tour of Mt Fuji and the surrounding Hakone National Park would be an awesome experience but at the same time realizing that nature can strike at any time so it’s not all pristine photographs and sights that many of us probably imagine.

One word of warning if you plan on visiting Mt Fuji is that visibility tends to be better during the colder seasons of the year than in summer as low lying cloud frequently covers the summit of Japan’s tallest mountain.

Kyoto

kyoto

Formerly the capital of Japan, Kyoto is full of history and plays host to one of Japan’s most iconic structures – Kinkakuji, also known as the Golden Pavilion Temple. Kyoto also is home to 16 additional World Heritage sites providing an indication as to exactly how historic and beautiful this city really is. This city is littered with shrines and temples, each captivating a unique aspect of Japanese culture in its own way.

Bullet Train

bullet

Come on guys, you can’t go to Japan without experiencing the famous Bullet Train right? The network of lines can take you pretty much anywhere you want to go in Japan with speeds exceeding 180mph. If you are staying in Kyoto and then decide you want to take a day trip to Tokyo, well it’s only a short 2 hour journey on one of these magnificent ‘flying machines.’

Tokyo

tokyo

Whether you want to experience the Tokyo Tower because you love climbing or learning more about Japanese culture in the Meiji Shrine or Imperial Palace, you will certainly find plenty of amazing attractions in the Japanese capital.

Public transportation here is second to none in the Eastern hemisphere so getting around is not really a problem, unless you decide you want to drive along the crammed streets of Tokyo.

Tsukiji Fish Market

Tsukiji Fish Market

Visiting Tsukiji Fish Market may seem like a strange attraction but when you consider that it is the world’s largest and busiest fish market, you will soon realize that it is a tourist haven.

However, one word of note is that this fish market is not always open to the public so be sure to check well in advance to ensure you can get in there – oh yeah, and be prepared to get there really early to ensure you will be one of the few folks allowed through the doors. Surely it has to be worth the wait!

Dream Destinations – Iceland

Iceland is a unique location that offers a myriad of natural attractions, beautifully breathtaking landscapes and scenery, and a vibrant culture/lifestyle. You combine all of these aspects and I am pretty much convinced that this classifies as a ‘Dream Destination’. During the years of 2008 to 2011, Iceland was going through a serious economic crisis but nowadays to see how the local Icelanders are quickly on their way back to becoming among the richest folks in the world is a testimony to the countries tenacity and attractive tourism spots.

Need more convincing? Ok, well take a look at the following attractions and locations throughout the island of Iceland and see if you are still wondering if this Scandinavian hot-spot is still for you (no pun intended on the ‘hot-spot’ but you will soon find out that Iceland is renowned for having hot spots that attract visitors from around the world).

Gullfoss

Gullfoss

If you are like me and love seeing waterfalls in action, then Iceland’s most famous of them all, Gullfoss will certainly attract your attention. After hiking through the gorgeous Icelandic tundra to reach the destination of Gullfoss, you will be rewarded with an amazing sight of a drop over 100ft into a steep-sided canyon. If you are fortunate enough, you may even see a rainbow generated by the spray and sunshine beaming down over this iconic attraction.

Will there be a pot of gold at the end? I think you have pretty much found the goldmine when you arrive at the beautiful Gullfoss waterfall!

Blue Lagoon

Blue_Lagoon

So you recall that I referred to these Icelandic ‘hot-spots’, well the Blue Lagoon is where visitors can go to sample the therapeutic spa experience thanks to the geothermal activity that creates such a perfect atmosphere and ambiance here. A large, light blue colored spa is deposited with mineral-rich heated seawater from the nearby geothermal plant providing an ultimate, relaxing spot. The towering clouds of steam that come from this spot make this location apparent from miles away but folks continue to travel from all reaches of the world to experience the apparent healing powers of the Blue Lagoon.

Reykjavik

Reykjavik

The capital of Iceland, Reykjavik has plenty to offer in terms of historic buildings, modern architecture and a relaxing lifestyle. This city is stereotypical of one that combines the modern era whilst maintaining a host of originality with the rows of multi-colored wooden houses. Wander around the striking Hallgrímskirkja church or if you want to do a spot of shopping in the high profile Icelandic boutique shops, why not head to Laugavegur to experience this whilst also grabbing a bite to eat or a pub crawl in this part of the city.

Thingvellir National Park

Þingvellir

Before I started researching Iceland, I had no real clue how cool Thingvellir National Park really is. Home of the Icelandic assembly that originated in the 10th Century and met until almost 1800, this national park serves a more prominent purpose nowadays as an official UNESCO heritage site. However, being a geography graduate the coolest aspect of this is the fact it plays host to the plate boundary between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.

The Northern Lights

Aurora_Borealis

Ever thought about seeing one of the greatest natural sights in the world? Well if you visit Iceland between the months of September and April, there is every chance you may be fortunate enough to see the Northern Lights in full force. The ‘Aurora Borealis‘ are phenomenal masterpieces created by mother nature and for thousands of years they have attracted people from around the world purely because of their scientific, religious and psychological thoughts about this phenomenon.

LA Lakers vs Houston Rockets Experience

During my recent visit to the Los Angeles, CA area for a work conference, I was fortunate enough to get tickets to the LA Lakers vs Houston Rockets game at Staples Center in Downtown LA.

This was my first time to LA, apart from going through LAX on a connecting flight once before, so I was excited to head to see the Lakers play despite them probably having one of their worst seasons in their history. Going to the game with a colleague who is an avid Rockets fan was of course going to be a challenge but that’s part of all the banter right!

Getting to the Staples Center

The conference was in Anaheim which is about 35 miles from the arena so the first thing worth noting is that trying to get to an evening game with tip-off at 7:30PM (Pacific Time) is a little tricky trying to deal with LA traffic. Public transportation in the LA metropolis for the most part is NOT a strong point so we made the decision early in the week to rent a car. Kudos to Budget Rental Cars because we picked up a car for 3 days for $62.

LA Lakers Staples Center

The drive from Anaheim to Downtown LA took just over a hour which was pretty reasonable given that traffic was frequently just crawling along across the 5 lanes of freeway. Once we arrived in the vicinity of the arena, the next challenge was finding a parking spot but I will say that this is one of the positives of the downtown area because there are plenty of options available. Please be aware that you will likely spend in the region of $15-25 but we found a secure parking garage on LA Live Way just a few minutes walk from the arena.

Pre-Game Experience

We walked around the arena to get a feel of our surroundings and given that we hadn’t eaten we decided to find a place to eat. There are various options available in the nearby Nokia Plaza and it really does depend on your preference. We opted for the Yard House which is a relatively upscale restaurant but predominantly is famous for having well over 120 draft beers and ales. The wait was relatively short and the atmosphere was great with a host of Lakers and Rockets fans mingling here having a beer and food prior to tip-off.

Yard House LA Lakers

If you don’t mind spending $20-30 for dinner, then I would highly recommend the Yard House. The Pepper Crusted Filet was amazing just in case you need a recommendation here.

Lakers vs Rockets Game

Our seats inside the Staples Center were really good, especially given that we only paid $50 dollars each for them. We were seated in Section PR1 which is the ‘Premium Seating’ section. The view was good if not spectacular but for that price you can’t complain! The game for the most part was entertaining and despite the Rockets pulling out to an early lead, the Lakers managed to keep in touch by half time and only trailed by 5.

LA Lakers

However, the second half was much more disappointing if you are a Lakers fan because the Rockets led by James Harden and an inspired display from Terrence Jones ran away to a 145-130 victory which in reality could have been a much wider margin had it not been for the Rockets pulling their starters in the final quarter.

One memorable moment for the avid Lakers fans was seeing Steve Nash move into 3rd spot in the all-time career assists list with 10,335 to his name. It really was a honor to be in the Staples Center to see the rapturous and much-deserved applause given to Nash by everyone present.

LA Lakers

Summary

If you are ever going to visit a NBA game, there are probably not many other teams you would choose first ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers. Added to this the opportunity to see the Lakers at their home arena, the Staples Center, it was a no brainer for me and I really enjoyed my experience there. Sure, the final score wasn’t the desired outcome but it was a memorable game for many reasons, none more so that seeing the legend Steve Nash make history in moving into third spot on the all-time assists list.

Ticket Cost – $53

Parking Cost – $15

Dinner Cost – $30

Total Cost – $98 (of course, you can do this much cheaper without dinner or cheaper tickets)

Dream Destinations – Hawaii

For many people, the hardest of the US states to visit is Hawaii simple because of it’s location in the heart of the Pacific Ocean. But for those that have been fortunate enough to have visited these Hawaiian islands, they know that they have had a real treat because of the beautiful landscape and near perfect climate there.

I would urge anyone that has never visited Hawaii to add this to your bucket list, just like we have because when you see some of the following attractions and locations on offer, you will soon realize this is a place you have to visit!

Here are our top 5 reasons for visiting the appropriately name ‘Islands of Aloha’.

Pearl Harbor

Pearl Harbor

Located on the island of Oahu, Pearl Harbor is a world-recognized attraction that was once host to the tragic events of the bombings that took place during World War II. This site is also the location of the USS Arizona Memorial and I am convinced that touring this site would be a sombre yet extremely rewarding experience. While the actual harbor is fairly large in size and can, the Visitor’s Center and USS Memorial are the real tourist hubs. Both places are free to enter, and of course because of this both draw large volumes of visitors!

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

volcano

The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is home to two of the world’s most renowned volcanoes – Mauna Loa and Kilauea. Today, the national park displays the results of active eruptions from these volcanoes and how they have formed the beautiful landscape that they reside on. The true character of this national park is best discovered on foot, as with over 150 miles of trails in the park, exploration by walking and hiking is both a beautiful and enjoyable experience.

Haiku Stairs

stairway-to-heaven

Commonly known as the ‘Stairway to Heaven’, the Haiku Stairs are located on the island of Oahu and is a steep hiking trail that challenges even the most serious of hikers. The stairs are made up of a series of galvanized-steel ship ladders that run from the Hawaiian valley floor to the top of Puu Keahiakahoe providing stunning scenery and views of the surrounding Hawaiian islands.

Hawaiian Beaches

Lanikai_Beach_Hawaii

It wouldn’t be a trip to Hawaii without experiencing the beautiful, golden sandy beaches that represent the islands as we know them. Of course, I am sure we are all aware of the world famous Waikiki Beach on Oahu but there are others that equally as aesthetically appealing to the eye such as Ho’okipa Beach on Maui, North Shore and Lanika on Oahu and Poipu Beach on Kauai.

Waimea Canyon State Park

Waimea_Canyon

Described as the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific”, Waimea Canyon State Park is a geological masterpiece 10 miles long and an area with stunning views everywhere. Known for its reddish lava beds, Waimea clearly has the Arizona feel to it but with a Hawaiian twist due to the earthquake activity that has taken place within the region producing the channels and streams that flow out of the canyon and into the Pacific Ocean.

Dream Destinations – Germany

The way we all portray Germany could have been so very different had the World Wars turned out differently but fortunately we can all now appreciate what a beautiful country the Germans live in!

Whether you are associating the many German brews that originate out of the Bavarian regions or the infamous schnitzels that you can buy on those idyllic Christmas markets, there is so much to do, see and experience in the stereotypical heart of Europe.

Here are just a few of the top attractions and regions worth visiting, and certainly at the top of my bucket list whenever I am able to visit the German homeland.

Berlin

Brandenburg_gate_sunset

There are so many amazing attractions in Berlin that you literally could spend weeks here and not have enough time to see everything a tourist would want to check out! The Berlin Wall, Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag Building and Museum Island are just a few examples of the myriad of attractions in the German capital.

Munich

Munich

Head to the heart of Munich to sample Oktoberfest if you have any interest in experiencing Beerfest in action. Another popular attraction if you are looking to relax is The Englischer Garten which is a large, public park that of course hosts two public beer gardens. Come on, it wouldn’t be Germany without such attractions on every street or park corner that you pass!

Neuschwanstein Castle

Neuschwanstein Castle

Possibly one of the most famous castles around the world, purely for the beautiful infrastructure and its location, Neuschwanstein Castle renowned as a symbol of idealised romantic architecture. Of course, this castle is also recognized for the tragic story of it’s owner King Ludwig II.

The Black Forest

BlackForest

The Black Forest is a wooded mountain range in Baden-Württemberg, southwestern Germany. Dubbed by visitors as the ultimate relaxation spot, this patch of forest offers a variety of hikes passing through tranquil settings of rivers and waterfalls, making this a great romantic spot to take a loved one for a weekend getaway.

Frankfurt

Skyline_Frankfurt

Another amazing German city that sometimes gets left behind Munich and Berlin is Frankfurt. With an abundance of historic architecture here, you can see sights such as the Goethe House, Cider Taverns in Sachsenhausen and the Römerberg. It is also renowned as the New York City of Germany with the plethora of high-rises and financial district hub.

Dream Destinations – Finland

Gorgeous landscapes, historic buildings and a variety of attractions are all aspects of the Scandinavian country of Finland that attract millions of visitors each year. I can’t specifically pinpoint one reason why I am so attracted to Scandinavia but there is something about this part of the world that just entices me there every time I read something related to one of the Nordic countries.

Here are some of the most appealing reasons for visiting “Suomi”, the Finnish name for Finland.

Suomenlinna

Suomenlinna

A world renowned heritage site, Suomenlinna is a maritime fortress located off the coast of Helsinki, Finland’s capital. Work began on the construction of this masterpiece in the mid-18th century and was originally developed as a fortress,  but nowadays is actually a district of Helsinki permanently housing around 800 residents.

National Museum of Finland

FinlandNationalMuseum

Finland’s National Museum houses a variety of permanent and temporary exhibitions that attract visitors from all around the world. Predominantly focused on Finnish history and ancestry, these exhibitions include such artifacts such as coins, medals and weapons in addition to archaeologically derived items. Finland prior to industrialization is displayed in several displays but possibly the most intriguing are the exhibits prior to the Ice Age.

Nuuksio National Park

Nuuksio

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, a beautiful part of rural Finland can be found in the Nuuksio National Park. Activities such as cross-country trekking, nature trails and ski cross-country are all available within this beautiful park and is certainly a great way to relax for a few days before heading on to explore more populated regions.

Sibelius Monument

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Dedicated to Finland’s famous composer, Jean Sibelius, ‘The Sibelius Monument‘ is located inside the confines of a park within the central area of Helsinki. Consisting of a series of more than 600 hollow, steel pipes, this piece of abstract art uniquely identifies Sibelius’ work as a prominent feature in Finland’s history.

Turku Castle

Turku_Castle

Turku Castle is a cultural and historical tourist attraction that is over 700 years old. It is one of the oldest living buildings still in use throughout Finland. One of the most visited museum’s throughout the country, it is undoubtedly an attraction worth exploring to learn more about Finland’s historic past.

Dream Destinations – Egypt

There are certain parts of Africa that are particularly appealing and in terms of North African locations, Egypt is near the top of this list for many reasons. Packed full of history and amazing stories, it is no wonder that this country plays hosts to tourists from all parts of the world.

What is it about Egypt that makes it so attractive? Whether you are interested in learning more about the ancient Pyramids or taking a relaxing cruise along the River Nile, I have to say that this country seems to have it all. A word of caution though is that you are probably better picking the time of year you visit here unless you want to experience the sweltering heat associated with the African wilderness.

It’s difficult to pick a selection of attractions/locations worth visiting in Egypt but here are my top 5 that are ‘must-sees’.

Pyramids of Giza

All Giza Pyramids

What better way to start your exploration of Egypt than by visiting one of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World – the Great Pyramid of Giza. I can only imagine how cool of an experience it would to see both the pyramid from the outside and also inside the chambers that make up the pyramid structure. Steeped with inspirational architecture dating back thousands of year, this is surely one of the most famous pieces anywhere in the world.

River Nile Cruise

Nile_Cruise

I have still never taken a cruise anywhere and of course we all associate these with Mexican or Caribbean cruises, but I would suggest that taking a cruise down the River Nile may well top both of these options. Relaxing on a cruise liner that wanders down the longest river in the world, passing by some amazing sights and scenery along the way sounds a pretty cool experience to me. There are a number of different cruise options available with different attractions available so dependent on what you would like to explore may well determine which option is best for you.

Mount Sinai

Mount_Sinai_Egypt

Set in the heart of a relatively barren landscape, Mount Sinai captures so many visitors and so much discussion not because of its size or appearance but because of it’s religious history that relates this directly to where Moses received the Ten Commandments. It’s one of those spots around the world that has so much sentimental value attached to it that everyone feels enticed to explore this region.

Valley of the Kings

Valley_of_Kings

If you are interested in continuing the theme of exploring more history, the Valley of Kings plays host to a number of tombs that once were used for pharaohs, the leaders of the ancient world. If you purchase an additional permit, you can take some high quality images (minus flash photography of course) of inside the tombs.

Great Sphinx of Giza

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Another of the infamous landmarks in Egypt is the Great Sphinx of Giza which stands proudly on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the River Nile. It’s interesting when looking at recent pictures of the Sphinx just how battered and worn this is. I think this adds much natural history to these types of attractions rather than restoring them which understandably has to be done in certain instances but trying to maintain the originality is key here.

Dream Destinations – Denmark

Intrigued by all Scandinavian countries, Denmark is certainly near the top of European countries I would love to explore further. Separated by the Baltic Sea, Denmark is geographically located in close proximity to both Sweden and Norway offering a perfect destination to travelers wishing to visit the whole peninsula.

There is so much history in this part of the world, much of which is related to the Viking Age in the early centuries. The architecture and infrastructure throughout Denmark is particularly appealing so it’s no surprise that many of the following top 5 locations are related to this very theme.

Tivoli Gardens

Tivoligardens

Tivoli Gardens located in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital, offers visitors a myriad of attractions including theme park rides, relaxing botanical gardens and fine restaurant options. This is the second oldest amusement park in the world so clearly has much history packed into this area.

Aarhus

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Can you imagine grabbing a bicycle and just riding around a beautiful, historic city taking in all the wonderful sights and maybe stopping at a local cafe for a latte? This is exactly the sort of thing you can do in the second largest city of Denmark, Aarhus. Also a seaport on the eastern coast of Denmark, Aarhus offers visitors plenty of options for exploring true Danish culture and heritage.

Rosenborg Castle

Rosenborg Slot

Rosenborg Castle is a gorgeous castle dating back to the start of the 17th Century. A royal residence in its early days, this castle is now available for daily guided tours around the grounds.

The Little Mermaid

littlemermaid

At Langelinje Pier, Copenhagen you will find one of Denmark’s most famous tourist attractions – the sculpture of The Little Mermaid. Designed under the influence of the famous fairy tale, this sculpture has recently celebrated it’s 100th anniversary and continues to attract visitors from around the world.

Strøget

Strøget

Strøget is one of Europe’s longest pedestrian streets with a wealth of shops, from budget-friendly chains to some of the world’s most lucrative designer brands. Located in the heart of Copenhagen this is certainly somewhere you can spend some time and probably see your cash dwindle away in these attractive Danish stores.

Dream Destinations – Croatia

Over the last few months we have been delighted to get to know several new travel bloggers around the world, in particular a couple of great folks from the beautiful nation of Croatia. Reading their blogs and following them on social media really inspired me to look into this country further and I can honestly say that I can’t wait to visit here to sample some of the amazing sights and delicacies that Croatia offers.

After following Chasing the Donkey and Frank about Croatiahere are my top 5 locations that I would love to explore for myself.

Istria

Sampling Croatian wine, relaxing along gorgeous stretches of beach and exploring some local historic architecture are all possible in the Croatian county of Istria. I started with this part of Croatia as it is located on the western coastline and also offers visitors the opportunity to take a ferry across to Venice from the town of Rovinj.

Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik

The beautiful town of Dubrovnik is appealing for many reasons, none more so than seeing the towering Franjo Tuđman Bridge (I love seeing modern piece of infrastructure). Aside from this, exploring the ‘Old Town’ and then being able to walk the walls of an official UNESCO site are all great reasons for visiting this part of Croatia.

Zagreb

Zagreb

I think it’s natural that whenever you visit a new country, you are likely going to want to visit the capital and Croatia is no different. Zagreb has plenty to offer but the most interesting aspect to me is seeing all of the archaic buildings and architecture throughout the city. Even the hotels such as the Regent Esplanade Zagreb are impressive structures and clearly packed full of history!

Plitvice Lakes National Park

Plitvice_Lakes_National_Park

Moving away from the urban Croatian settings into Plitvice Lakes National Park, the above picture pretty much says it all! Talk about utter beauty and bliss – this is a national park that I want to explore! The water looks crystal clear and add to this a plethora of scenic waterfalls and you have a great spot for relaxing before heading back to the hustle and bustle of exploring urban Croatia.

Hvar

Hvar

As you are leaving Croatia the beautiful island of Hvar located in the Adriatic Sea offers gorgeous scenery away from the mainland.
