Camping in Cornwall – How to Enjoy An Unforgettable Experience?

32

What is the first thing that springs to mind when you hear the word ‘camping’? We probably all interpret the word very differently but in layman’s terms it is ‘the activity spending a vacation living in a camp, tent, or camper’. So what do folks around the world stereotype when they hear the word camping? Regardless of your definition or opinion of this concept, we want to enlighten you with our experience of camping in Cornwall, England and hopefully convince you that this should be something you consider in the near future.

GUIDE TO CAMPING

From an American perspective, you probably associate campsites or RV parks as they are commonly known, as just an off the beaten path location that is a much cheaper option than staying in a hotel. But from a British standpoint, I can safely tell you that our experiences have been like 5-star luxury!

Camping in Cornwall

“Camping in Cornwall – An Unforgettable Experience”…The title of this post truly sums up the feeling I have about camping around England. I will go out on a limb and say that 9 times out of 10, camping in England will ultimately lead to a positive experience! Now that’s a bold statement to make you are probably thinking, especially given the beautiful (NOT!) climate that everyone associates with this part of the world.

But camping in England is much more than just pitching a tent on a patch of grass, it is an unforgettable experience with a variety of incentives that make your stay all the more enjoyable. All of this makes up for the wet and wintry conditions you can expect to experience during the Summer months! After all, it wouldn’t be England without the odd rain shower!

Many of you British citizens will also argue that camping in England doesn’t necessarily mean you are staying in a tent. Whether you have a touring caravan, RV/camper van, rent a static caravan or you have the good old tent and sleeping bag combination, there is a campsite (or caravan site as we Brits refer to them!) waiting to welcome you.

Throughout my childhood years, my parents would take me to a variety of caravan sites in Cornwall, Devon, Isle of Wight and even the Fylde Coast in North-West England. We stayed in our own touring caravan which pretty much felt like our very own house on wheels that we would pull behind our car and stay for 1-2 weeks before returning home. Memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life and certainly put me in good stead to appreciate English caravan sites!

Where to Camp in Cornwall?

DSCN0278

Spending time along the Cornish coastline was high on our bucket list and after much research we decided to stay at Trevella Caravan Park which we honestly didn’t know much about but because it received rave reviews online and it was in a perfect location to explore the rest of Cornwall we opted to pitch our tent there.

DSCN0352

Everything about Trevella was positive. The on-site bathrooms were in pristine condition – the experience enhanced even more because they were individual rooms with a shower, sink, and toilet! A crazy golf course, TV and game room and on-site restaurant provided plenty of activities to ensure that you didn’t have to go far to enjoy your holiday break.

Rain or Shine?

DSCN0146

As I mentioned earlier, the key aspect about camping in England is that you have to forget about the British climate and just enjoy yourselves, in many ways embrace the conditions otherwise you will likely get very depressed! Unfortunately, we followed this same philosophy or so we thought until the heavens opened one night and we faced the dreaded reality that our tent was leaking.

Imagine being stuck on a Cornish campsite in the middle of the night with thunder and lightning and water starts seeping into your sleeping bag.

DSC_0141

Needless to say, the following day was spent shopping in St. Austell to purchase a new, upgraded version of our tent which hopefully would prove to be a little more watertight.

Be prepared for any weather and you will have an amazing camping experience around England. The beauty of camping in Cornwall is that you can enjoy the very best of this gorgeous county.

Whether you are intrigued by the thought of taking a stroll around the charming village of Mevagissey or perhaps you are an expert surfer that wants to hit the waves off the coast of Newquay or St. Ives, you can be assured that Cornwall has plenty of attractions to keep you occupied. Of course, what better way to end your day than by heading to a gorgeous campsite and relaxing in your luxury tent!

Summary

My tip for you whenever you consider backpacking around England, make sure you grab your tent and sample some of the best British caravan sites especially those in Cornwall because I am convinced you will not regret it.

Philadelphia in Pictures – A Guide to the City of Brotherly Love

If you are interested in American history, there is no better place to visit than Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Chris and I were fortunate enough to visit here during the winter months which provided an added bonus of snow covered streets which from an Arkansan perspective was really cool to see given that we rarely get much snow in our part of the States.

So what makes Philadelphia such an attractive location for travelers? Well, whether it’s raining, snowing or the sun is shining there is always something to do in “The City of Brotherly Love”. The beauty of Philadelphia is that everything downtown is very accessible by foot or if you prefer to use the public transportation system, the SEPTA is easy to navigate and convenient.

Whether you are interested in learning about the moment America earned their independence at Independence Hall or recreating Rocky’s infamous training routine on the steps outside the Philadelphia Art Museum, there is surely something here that will interest you. Rather than using words to describe our trip here, we want to share some of our favorite images that really depict our experience more than any words could!

Hopefully this will inspire you to check out one of the most historic cities throughout USA. If you are like us, you won’t regret taking a trip to The City of Brotherly Love and of course, you have to sample one of the most famous American delicacies there – “The Philly Cheesesteak!”

Saturday Snaps #4 – Water’s Edge of St Georges Basin

St Georges Basin

Location:  Taken on the water’s edge of St Georges Basin on the New South Wales South Coast of Australia from a vacant block of land on Naval Parade in the town of Erowal Bay.

Author: Jen Seligmann @ The Trusted Traveller

My husband and I spent an amazing long weekend last year exploring Jervis Bay and the St George’s Basin area on the New South Wales South Coast of Australia. It’s about a two and a half hour drive from Sydney and easily achievable for a long weekend.

We stumbled across this vacant block of land one afternoon while out looking for kangaroos that we had been told, come out to graze just before sundown in the area. Parking the car we wandered down to the water’s edge where there was two old logs perfectly carved out into seats with the most spectacular view of the Basin. We sat there for about an hour watching the sunset with our only company, the pelican and his friend on the end of the wharf in front of us. It was perfectly peaceful and one of the highlights of our weekend.

Jonesboro Arkansas – The Next Silicon Valley?

Jonesboro Arkansas is probably not one of the first places you would consider visiting while exploring the United States especially given that it is hidden away in the north-east corner of one of the lesser known US states. However, since 2008 this small town of just over 67,000 has been my home, so I felt it was time to share with you a few reasons that may entice you to visit the region!

Location and History

Jonesboro Arkansas is not and probably never will be a tourist attraction for folks touring the States, but one thing that it does offer for visitors is a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and enough attractions to keep you occupied for a couple of days before you decide on your next move. For anyone within the mid-south or for folks that love a good old stereotypical US road trip, Jonesboro may well be a perfect spot to explore before heading on to other more populous cities such as Memphis or Little Rock.

Jonesboro Map

100 Mile Radius from Jonesboro, AR

Located about a hour north-west of Memphis across the Mississippi River, Jonesboro is not in the ideal location to travel to other spots though as you can see from the above map a 100 mile radius does put you within reach of Memphis and Little Rock.

Jonesboro can be proud to know that in 2011 according to Business Insider magazine it is one of the most lucrative areas for technology corporations:

Craighead County is atop a list of 20 “micropolitan” areas in the U.S. with potential to be the next Silicon Valley.

What does this mean? Well, given that this analysis was done based on broadband Internet access, access to a large workforce, vibrant local economy and a solid university/college presence it shows that Jonesboro clearly has the upper hand on all other up and coming “booming” towns/cities. This can only be beneficial to the region in general and will certainly attract key businesses in a myriad of sectors that will help take this town to the next level.

Ok, so there you have a little history about the location and potential future of Jonesboro but you are probably wondering what the key attractions are that will encourage you to explore this part of Arkansas! Hopefully after reading this post you will have at least a small inclination to check this out for yourselves!

5 Top Attractions

1. Craighead Forest Park

Craighead Forest Park Entrance

One of the best family attractions in Jonesboro is Craighead Forest Park which offers a beautiful lake and trails that wrap around the perimeter. It is a popular spot for fishing and there is even a disc golf course available that interwines the forest. It is a great spot for a picnic or if you are traveling around on a road trip there is a RV park available for overnight stays.

Craighead Forest Park Disc Golf

2. Crowley’s Ridge Nature Center

Another great option for those with a family or just anyone that wishes to get some exercise is to visit Crowley’s Ridge Nature Center. Within the internal confines complex is an exhibit center, observation tower, “Discovery Rooms” which are a great way for kids to learn about different wildlife species and of course full details on the unique topography and natural history of the surrounding delta region where the ridge lies.

Crowleys Ridge Nature Center

Outside is where you can really get adventurous and take advantage of the great trails that interconnect with Craighead Forest Park, so this is a great spot to spend the afternoon after lunch in the park!

3. Downtown Jonesboro

Jonesboro Downtown

I have always found that smaller towns in USA tend to have very unique downtown areas and Jonesboro is no different. With a variety of restaurants and cuisine types available, this is definitely a picturesque part of Jonesboro worth wandering up and down, taking in some of the more unique architectural designs inside the city limits.

Jonesboro War Memorial

4. Arkansas State University

At the heart of Jonesboro’s expanding economy is Arkansas State University which offers a variety of different options for visitors to the area. Experience the ASU Museum located inside the Dean B. Ellis Library or catch a football game at Centennial Bank Stadium to really become part of the Red Wolves atmosphere.

5. Turtle Creek Mall

After experiencing all of the adventure and history that Jonesboro has to offer, why not head over to Turtle Creek Mall for some retail therapy. Some of the nations leading brands are located in here including Target, Best Buy, Dillards and JC Penney’s. It’s in a great location along Red Wolf Boulevard and in close proximity to a variety of chain restaurants.

Local Restaurant Options

After a busy day exploring Jonesboro, you will probably be ready to sample some of Arkansas’ finest cuisine. Whether your taste is BBQ, Mexican or Italian, I can guarantee there is something just for you in Jonesboro that will fill your appetite. Here are a couple of my favorite options that I would recommend experiencing:

1. Kandela Mexican Grill

Kandela Mexican Grill

Undoubtedly my favorite restaurant in Jonesboro, Kandela Mexican Grill is a more ‘up-scale’ version of your stereotypical Americanized Mexican restaurant. The atmosphere and decor inside is great, the food is always freshly prepared and the service is one of the best I have experienced not only in Jonesboro but throughout my travels in USA!

I would recommend either the Yolandas or the Ranchero Mix as both are great options that will certainly leave you with a true experience of this restaurant.

2. Demo’s Barbeque and Smokehouse

Barbeque is obviously a major attraction in this part of the country and Demo’s Barbeque and Smokehouse offers some of the best around. I am not much of a ribs person but have heard that these are really good, but I can vouch for the pulled pork sandwich that is a great option if BBQ is your preference.

3. Slim Chickens

Slim Chickens Jonesboro

Although this isn’t a completely local option as there are several locations around Arkansas and Oklahoma, Slim Chickens is the best choice for grilled or fried chicken tenders. The Chick’s Plate, for just $6.99, comprises of three fresh tenders, fries, Texas Toast and a fountain drink! A great bargain that you won’t regret.

Slim Chickens Review

Summary

So there you have my very first post on Jonesboro, Arkansas. Prior to writing this I was a little reluctant to do so given that my general perspective on Jonesboro is negative, especially if you ask Heather who was born and raised here. But I am proud to call this home for now because this town has given me a lot of opportunities and really helped my life move in the right direction. From meeting Heather here to my great job at Arkansas State University, Jonesboro will always have a place in my heart even if we decide to move on in the next few years.

I would definitely encourage you to give towns like Jonesboro a chance before dismissing them as not worth exploring. Going back to the original question posed by Business Insider in 2011 about whether Jonesboro could potentially be the next Silicon Valley? I am not very optimistic that you will ever see the likes of Apple or Google setting up base here but in 20-25 years you never know where Jonesboro, Arkansas may be on the global map!

Allett RFID Passport Wallet – Product Review

With the increased risk of security breaches seemingly increasing on a global scale, as travellers we all need to become aware of our surroundings and become more vigilant when traveling around the world. However, despite our best intentions there are still people out there that seem to be one step ahead of us and always looking for a way to capture your PII (Personally Identifiable Information) data.

Allett Logo 2So what can we do about this in order to become more efficient travelers without worrying that we may become the next victim in credit card or passport fraud? We think that we may have just found a line of products that may help us all with this very issue!

Thanks to Allett, they have released a very specific array of travel and business products that will help us travel more securely while at the same time maintaining a convenient, durable and aestethically pleasing appearance.

We are delighted today to be introducing the Allett RFID Passport Wallet that we have been using for a couple of months now and I have to admit this is one passport holder that I NEVER want to relinquish!

Allett RFID Passport HolderIt is awesome! Stylish, extremely durable and multi-functional are just a few words that spring to mind when describing this product.

What is RFID?

Let’s explain a little more about this RFID concept! You may be asking, what on earth is RFID?

RFID (Radio-frequency Identification) is the wireless non-contact use of radio-frequency electromagnetic fields to transfer data!

This sounds awesome right, that all of our information is stored in this invisible electromagnetic spectrum! Well sure it is but there is one slight problem – it is a fraudsters dream because they can hack into your RFID passports without you even knowing about it.

RFID Protected

Please trust us when we say there are a lot of tech-savvy folks out there that CAN and WILL get your information when you are least expecting it!

Allett RFID Passport Wallet

But that’s where Allett comes along….with their concept of creating a better product than what is being offered by their competition, they have have a multi-metalized liner that blocks radio frequencies even in close range. The key that makes Allett’s products stand out from their main rivals is the idea of near-range RFID security.

The security strength of these wallets is undeniable with defense up to 3,000 MHz while most credit transactions which utilize RFID take place at 13.56MHz (Adam Muscat, COO of Allett)

Inside of Allett RFID Passport Holder

Pros

  • Security strength within the unique layers up to 3,000MHz makes this a definite market leader.
  • Thin, lightweight wallet yet extremely durable.
  • Made from Napa cowhide, this is a high-quality material that is stylish for both business and personal use.
  • Storage for up to 14 credit cards in addition to passport holder and a clear window for your ID.
  • Passport slides easily into holder so easy to remove at TSA checkpoint.

Cons

  • At $49.99, many will see this as a negative but honestly to maintain your peace of mind and keep your information safe, is this really a high price to pay?

Conclusion

The Allett RFID Passport Wallet has an abundance of positive aspects that will ultimately convince you that this product is for you. At just under $50, I personally think this is great value for money though as I indicated above this may be something that turns some people away!

I am also very impressed with the rest of Allett’s product line and look forward to using more of them in the future. Hopefully this will convince you that your personal information is of paramount importance – please don’t wait until it’s too late!

Dream Destinations – Collaboration Part 4

Which locations around the world inspire you to travel? The answer to this question may well be within one of our Dream Destinations posts. If you have followed any of our earlier Part 1, Part 2 or Part 3 posts, you will know that we all have very different ideas when we consider our Dream Destination.

But we all have one thing in common – travel inspiration! Whether you are fortunate enough to be traveling full-time or having to balance your travel with a work schedule, there are spots around the world that we all want to visit at least once in our lifetime.

Dream Destinations

If you haven’t been inspired by any of the previous destinations, maybe the following locations will wet your appetite to get out and travel the world. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the travelers that have shared their dreams with us!

Galapagos Islands- Trailbound

Trupti-Devdas-Nayak

Ever since Charles Darwin proposed his theory of evolution, the Galapagos Islands have captured the imagination of people all over the world. The islands fired up my imagination too, as I love learning about flora and fauna. Being home to several famously endemic species like marine iguanas, blue-footed booby birds, giant tortoises, flightless cormorants, tiny penguins, Darwin’s finches and even painted locusts, visiting the Galapagos Islands would be a dream come true for me.

Being just a short flight away from Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands are an enticing nature preserve where visitors get to see and feel, first-hand, the thrill that Charles Darwin must have experienced when he witnessed thousands of endemic species and had his “eureka” insight into their evolutionary history. The Galapagos Islands might not have big impressive animals like those that lure visitors to Africa (another of my dream destinations well-renowned for its wildlife). But the Galapagos is one of the few places in the world that can boast a mind-boggling variety of fearless and unique animals, birds and plants.

Due to limited human activity and exposure to humans on the islands, these animals and birds consider humans as part of the landscape, so visitors get to observe these marvels of nature in excitingly close proximity. The Galapagos Islands are a must-visit for anybody who loves nature and wildlife and I hope to make this dream destination a reality someday.

Kenya- The Travel Sisters

The Travel Sisters

Our dream destination is Giraffe Manor in Kenya. This boutique hotel, along with its dedicated Giraffe Center, is home to a number of endangered Rothschild giraffes. It is the only place in the world where you can feed giraffes from your window. During mealtime, the giraffes wander the property poking their long necks in windows and doorways searching for snacks. We’ve had the opportunity to view these beautiful creatures on safari but the idea of actually sharing a hotel and meals with them is absolutely irresistible!

The manor is set on 140 acres of indigenous forest and there are several non-giraffe related activities available in the area as well. They all seem like interesting and worthwhile activities but honestly, we can’t imagine doing anything other than observe our beloved giraffes- with snacks readily available, of course.

Kerguelen Islands – Pirancafe

Bob Ramsak - Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia - March 2013

I’m fascinated by isolation and drawn to isolated places; this French archipelago in the southern Indian Ocean may as well be used to illustrate the dictionary definition of ‘isolation’. That it’s commonly referred to as The Desolation Islands is telling.

This group of about 300 small islands is more than 3,000 kilometers from the nearest population center. There’s no airstrip, so just getting there requires at least a six-day boat journey over very rough seas from Reunion, an island east of Madagascar. Visiting both of those would be quite a bonus as well.

It’s part of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands so it’s fairly cold; temperatures rarely rise above 10 C (50 F). And wind-swept, too; speeds of over 150 km/h (93 mph) are frequent. In photographs it’s ruggedly sublime and desolate, a mix of islands and islet, coves, plains and mountains.

The only permanent inhabitants are sheep, feral cats and rabbits, and a crew of fifty to one hundred French scientists and researchers. A perfect opportunity to practice my limited French.

I haven’t researched it much, but initial cost reports –about €15,000 (approx USD 20,400) for a R/T cruise from Reunion— quickly moved this destination from the dream to fantasy categories. It’s time to get creative and resourceful.

Jamaica- Penelope and Parker’s Travels

Anna Parker

Based on previous trips to Antigua and Barbados (seeing too much of “Brits abroad” en masse and needing to avoid) I wouldn’t have thought anywhere in the Caribbean could be a dream destination but then by chance we discovered the wonderful island of Jamaica! Our 10 days there was an absolute dream and I would love to return!

Flights from the UK are only about 9 hours and its just a short hop from the USA. The country doesn’t yet have mass market tourism – for sure there a spattering of all-inc resorts near MoBay – and this emptiness and lack of arrogance (and the accompanying $$$ mark-ups) is exactly what drives its charm! It is safer than the press would have you believe and the roads are good (although I won’t be driving through Kingston at night again…), in fact we travelled across the island – and surprised each and every hotel we stayed at arriving with a hire car!

The people we met were friendly and happy and everything was easy going and relaxing, the scenery was stunning (think Cornwall, but with guaranteed warmth and blue skies and warm sea), the beer was fine, the Blue Mountain coffee was outstanding (I don’t normally like coffee), the food was simple yet tasty and good quality and the sea really was the colour it is in the guide books and better still – the beaches were empty!

We stayed in 3 vert different hotels and each was fantastic in its own right – be that a mountain retreat above Kingston, a rustic chic boutique on a quiet stretch of coast near Treasure Beach or absolute luxury and Ralph Lauren designed up in the north. We love exploring where we visit and could do this in Jamaica at our own pace without needing to dodge tour groups, or we would just crack open a Red Stripe by the pool and enjoy the sunshine in peace! Probably one of the most relaxing locations we have visited!

Japan – My Feet Are Meant To Roam

Els Mahieu

My dream destination at the moment would have to be Japan. I say “at the moment”, cause it tends to vary depending on the travel magazines I read or the documentaries I get to see ☺! But overall, it has been an old time favourite on my bucket list!

There’s something very mystical about Japan: the contrast between the high-tech capital of Tokyo and what I imagine the much more traditional ancient capital of Kyoto is very appealing!

Things that I would love to experience in Japan are:

  • Staying in a traditional ryokan
  • Staying in a love hotel
  • Witnessing “nominication”: the concept of going to drinking parties with senior colleagues after work as a means of improving communication.
  • Visiting the Harajuku district in Tokyo
  • Sakura (the cherry-blossom festival)
  • Visiting traditional Kyoto

I’d better start saving now!

Japan- Pack Me To

Adelina Wong - Budapest Heros Square

Whenever I travel, the biggest thing I miss about my home city of Vancouver, Canada is the abundance of delicious Japanese food. Sushi, rice bowls and oodles of ramen and udon noodles that would, of course, be in abundance in Japan. I would love to wake up at the crack of dawn to explore the Tsukiji Fish Market and taste the freshest sashimi or wander through the ramen museum (yes that exists!).

Beyond the food though, I would love to check out the snow monkeys at Jigokudani Monkey Park, explore the beautiful shrines, temples and castles throughout the country and walk through history in Hiroshima. There seems to be so much to see and do for a country that is only slightly smaller than the state of California. From first hand reports and travel documentaries, I am completely fascinated by the Japanese culture.

Quirky fashion, manga and anime, and advanced technology are all juxtaposed against the country’s traditions and history. Even the heated toilet seats have me curious! It seems like Japan has such a unique cultural identity which makes it my dream destination.

Saturday Snaps #3 – Everlasting Love on the Isle of Wight

Sandown Isle of WightLocation:  Everlasting Love on the Isle of Wight

Author: Chris & Heather Boothman (A Brit & A Southerner)

Does this picture really need any explanation? This truly was a perfect moment to capture the ultimate everlasting love pose as these elderly folks wandered along the seafront. We captured this image whilst visiting Sandown on the beautiful Isle of Wight just off the southern coast of England.

This really gives us all inspiration to travel the world with our loved ones and hopefully we will all be doing the same whenever we reach their age!

5 Inspiring Reasons to Visit Bath

Let’s start with a simple question – how many of you reading this post have visited the historic city of Bath, England? Chances are if you are from England you probably have visited this city at least once in your lifetime but if you are from anywhere else in the world, you may not have been as fortunate yet to experience this beautiful Roman city!

Well, what are you waiting for? Don’t wait any longer! After reading this post, you will be itching to catch the next plane to London Heathrow and then hop on the M4 or the train across to Bath, England.

I would like to share with you my 5 inspiring reasons to visit Bath. There are many, many more but after our last trip there I really feel obliged to share our experiences and inspire you to check out this amazing English city that probably fails to receive the attention it richly deserves.

Roman Baths

Ok, sorry folks but I had to start with the most obvious and probably what Bath is stereotypically famous for around the world – the Roman Baths! People that do visit Bath generally flock from around the world to experience the healing, relaxing waters found in these Roman Baths. You can bathe in the natural thermal waters that were discovered by the Celts and Romans over 2000 years ago. There are a variety of packages available dependent on how much pampering you really want.

Roman Baths Inside - Bath, England

The Roman Baths building was voted the most romantic building throughout the UK in 2013 and combined with the Temple of Aqua Sulis Minerva, they are certainly among the finest ancient architectural designs/remains left throughout the country.

For £66.00 per person, you can experience the Spas Ancient and Modern Special Package. I would highly recommend taking this option given that it includes a 2 hour thermal relaxation session in the baths, a full tour around the Roman Baths and a 3 course lunch or champagne tea (your preference) in the Pump Room.

reasons to visit bath

Even standing outside the entrance to the Roman Baths building, it’s relaxing to just sit and watch as people go about their daily lives passing through this iconic courtyard or consider heading into what many feel is a life-changing few moments of relaxation!

Guided Walking Tour

Just like many other leading tourist locations around England, Bath is a great city to just get out and walk around both inside the city limits and also outside in the nearby rural countryside.

Why not sample some of Bath’s gorgeous rolling hills and winding canal paths by taking a guided walking tour that lasts around 2 hours and covers just over 2 miles of gorgeous scenery!

reasons to visit bath

This is a perfect way to learn about Bath’s steeped history along with catching a glimpse of some mainstream attractions such as Jane Austen’s house and the gardens she walked in. If you would like to mingle with other tourists and locals alike, for just £7.50 each you can take a guided tour around Bath. However, if you would prefer to be taken on a privately guided tour, that option is also available for a slightly higher cost.

The Royal Crescent

The Royal Crescent is a row of 30 terraced houses designed in the shape of a crescent and constructed in the mid-18th Century. Undoubtedly one of the most famous piece of Georgian architecture, this is a sight to behold and is certainly worth taking the time to at least see this spectacular design from the outside.

Royal Crescent - Bath, England

Number 1 Royal Crescent is a museum open to the public and owned/maintained by the Bath Preservation Trust. This is a great way to learn about Georgian heritage and the rooms inside the museum have been preserved and in some cases transformed to relay a direct correlation with Georgian living in the 18th Century.

Another of the terraced houses has been transformed into a hotel which is one of the more lucrative establishments in the Bath region. If you want to be treated like royalty whilst visiting Bath, I would highly recommend checking out The Royal Crescent Hotel.

Jane Austen Centre

Jane Austen Centre - Bath, England

The Jane Austen Centre is located in the heart of Bath and is a permanent exhibition where you can learn about one of England’s finest authors. It’s a great way for visitors of all ages to learn more about Austen’s life in Bath during the early part of the 19th Century, and how this part of England really had an impact on her writing style.

A favourite aspect for many visiting the Jane Austen Centre is the hands-on dressing up activities that allow visitors the opportunity to get fitted out with regalia from Austen’s era. It’s a great way to have some fun filled action whilst at the same time learn about the cultural differences between now and then.

Admission prices are just £8.00 for adults and discounted rates for seniors and children.

Bath Abbey

If none of the previous reasons are inspiration for you to visit bath, you could always just marvel at the stunning architectural design of Bath Abbey whilst wandering around the downtown streets of Bath and along the banks of the River Avon.

reasons to visit bath

The Abbey Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, commonly known as Bath Abbey, dates back to the 7th Century so clearly this is part of Bath that is filled with an abundance of history. Today, this is still a fully functioning place of worship and both tourists and locals alike are welcome to visit here at any time during visitor opening hours.

Even though we didn’t go inside the Abbey, just standing outside and looking in awe at this magnificent design was worthy enough of our time!

RESTAURANTS

Lou Malnati’s Pizza

Lou Malnatis Chicago

One of the most famous pizza chains in Chicago is Lou Malnati’s. Unfortunately our experience there wasn’t the best as our food was not particularly good, but it is worth visiting if you want an authentic Chicago Deep-Dish pizza experience.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

Krispy Kreme

I know this is a chain and probably not really a ‘restaurant’ but a great spot for breakfast is Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, especially if you can time your visit there whilst the ‘Hot’ sign is displayed outside because you will be given a tasty, free doughnut before ordering. It’s also a cool experience to watch how the doughnuts are made as they pass along the conveyor belt.

Carnelli’s Deli

Carnellis Deli Menu

Located in the food court at the Navy Pier in Downtown Chicago, Carnelli’s Deli is a great lunch option with great subs. Choose from a variety of breads and fillings and you will be left delighted choosing this spot!
